TL;DR: An RFQ for 500+ plastic bulk containers needs eight fields to get an accurate first-round quote: outside and inside dimensions, maximum load and stack height, product contact (food or non-food), resin and color, lids or drains, handling method (forklift, tipper, pallet jack), annual volume by site, and delivery window. LT Plastics, an authorized Bonar Plastics distributor based in Phoenix, AZ, supplies these containers and speed bumps to US plants and distribution centers.

    Why Large Container Quotes Stall

Buyers often send one line: "price for 500 bulk bins." The supplier must then guess dimensions, load, and food contact. Each guess becomes a round of emails and quotes that cannot be compared side by side. A complete RFQ turns a two-week back-and-forth into one round.

    The 8-Field RFQ Template

    1. Dimensions

State outside dimensions first, then minimum inside capacity. Outside size controls how many fit per trailer and per rack position. See our complete guide to industrial HDPE containers for standard footprints.

    2. Load, stacking and handling

Give the heaviest load the bin will carry and how high it stacks loaded. Name the equipment: forklift, tipper, or dumper. This decides base and wall design more than any other field.

    3. Food contact and compliance

If product touches the container, ask for FDA-compliant HDPE and a written resin statement. Our food-grade packaging requirements guide explains what to request.

    4. Accessories

List lids, drain valves, runners, and color coding. Adding them after the quote changes price and lead time.

    5. Volume, sites and timing

Split annual volume by site and give a target date. Phased delivery often fits production slots better than one large shipment.

    How to Compare the Quotes

Compare cost per year of use, not unit price. Rotomolded HDPE bulk containers commonly run for many years in plant service, so a cheaper bin that cracks early costs more. Our plastic bulk containers guide covers lifespan and failure modes.

    FAQ

What is the minimum information for a bulk container quote?

Outside dimensions, maximum load, food contact yes or no, and quantity. Add handling equipment and delivery date for an accurate price.

Should one RFQ cover several plants?

Yes. One RFQ with volume split by site gets a program price and a combined freight plan instead of separate small orders.

Do I need a sample before ordering 500 units?

For a new design or new application, request one sample or a pilot lot before the full release.

What lead time should I plan for?

Lead time depends on model and production schedule. Ask for it in writing with the quote and plan phased deliveries for large programs.
